The South African clinched his second success in a row in the championship for under 25s, extending his lead in the classification. In a turbulent race, Sheldon van der Linde and his older brother Kelvin were in second place overall in the Audi R8 LMS from Montaplast by Land-Motorsport for most of the race. In the closing stages, Sheldon van der Linde put pressure on fellow Audi driver, Elia Erhart, who was in P1, but ultimately lost out in the battle for victory by just 0.3 seconds. Thanks to finishing runner-up overall, he secured the win in class as he had done yesterday. Along with his brother, he is now in fourth place in the overall standings and still has a chance of a title in the season finale at Hockenheim in two weeks' time.
"I'm not totally satisfied, because I think we could have won the race," said the 19-year-old. "I didn't want to take any risks in the end, because it was important to secure points. Second place is good. Our title chances are still alive, and that's what counts."
Swiss driver Jeffrey Schmidt in another Audi R8 LMS was second-best Junior. Mücke driver Schmidt and partner Stefan Mücke are in third place overall. In the Junior stakes, Zakspeed Mercedes-AMG drivers Nicolai Sylvest and Kim-Luis Schramm took third place after finishing sixth overall. Mercedes-AMG drivers Indy Dontje and Maximilian Buhk had finished third in class at the chequered flag but were retrospectively handed a 30-second penalty for crossing the line at the pit exit.
In the Pirelli Trophy standings, current front-runner Remo Lips further extended his lead with his victory in class. Together with partner Maximilian Hackländer in the Aust Audi, he had been in third place overall shortly after the round of pit stops but eventually dropped out of the Top Ten. Nevertheless, it was enough to give him victory in the classification for amateur drivers.
"I was very shocked to suddenly find myself in third place after the safety car period," said the Swiss driver. "I asked about ten times on the radio if it was really true, or whether I had to let myself be lapped. The guys behind me really piled on the pressure, plus, my car was no longer running too well, which is why I dropped back. Still, to take the Trophy win from grid slot 32 and secure P12 overall is OK by me."
