Van der Linde brothers are new Sachsenring winners: DMSB appeals panel rule on Race 1 at the Sachsenring

The outcome was that Kelvin and Sheldon van der Linde were awarded the victory in the first of the two ADAC GT Masters races at the Sachsenring. The brothers, who drive a Montaplast by Land-Motorsport Audi R8 LMS, originally finished the eleventh race of the season in second place behind the Porsche 911 GT3 R of Timo Bernhard and Kevin Estre. The KÜS Team75 Bernhard duo had been allowed to start from pole after initially being excluded from qualifying.

The exclusion of the number 17 Porsche was decided by the scrutineers when they established a breach of the technical regulations (ADAC GT Masters, Clarification 2/2018) during their inspection after the qualifying session for Race 1, which would have sent Bernhard and Estre to the back of the grid. KÜS Team75 Bernhard immediately lodged an appeal against this decision by the DMSB officials and were allowed to start the Saturday race from first place subject to the outcome of the hearing. The appeal was heard and dismissed by the DMSB appeals committee on Monday. The disqualification therefore stands, and the points scored by the number 17 Porsche are cancelled.

The records will now show Kelvin and Sheldon van der Linde as winners of Saturday's race. This is their first win as a driver pairing and a first victory of the season for Montaplast by Land-Motorsport. Kim-Luis Schramm and Nicolai Sylvest (Team Zakspeed BKK Mobil Oil-Mercedes-AMG GT3) move up to second and are joined in the Top Three by Timo Scheider and Mikkel Jensen (BMW Team Schnitzer BMW M6 GT3).

In the championship table, the van der Linde brothers are in third place on 96 points behind Robert Renauer and Mathieu Jaminet on 109 and Maximilian Götz and Markus Pommer on 105. In the team classification, Mann-Filter Team HTP have extended their lead over second-placed team Precote Herberth Motorsport to 34 points, with just the one weekend at Hockenheim remaining.
