The Czech outfit led by Igor Salaquarda finally managed to put in a high-level performance always fighting within the top ten thanks to a great run by Filip Salaquarda and Frank Stippler in the #33 Audi R8 LMS.
Free practice envisaged for a tight weekend as several drivers were all within a handful of seconds. Salaquarda put in a great performance in Q1 posting a 1m38.880s that earned him the twelfth place. Q2 has been even more exciting on Sunday morning. Stippler posted a great 1m38.536s, that placed Team ISR's car on the third row of the grid in P5.
Race one has been full of thrill, especially when a contact among some cars ahead forced Salaquarda to go wide on the grass at the Parabolika Kurve. The Czech driver managed to stay cool and controlled the car rejoining the track without too many damages and this allowed him to restart the race after the red flag. At the restart, he ran a wise stint staying out of trouble and saving tyres despite his setup had been a bit compromised by the excursion. Stippler did a great job in the second stint and recovered up to P7, which was the best result of season 2019 up to that point.
Stippler started race two resolute to build on the previous result. The race was again stopped on lap one due to an incident and restarted behind the safety car. Stippler drove a great stint trying to move several attacks to the #17 Porsche 911 GT3 driven by Bachler and kept his position until the pit stop. Salaquarda rejoined in P6, but the Team ISR driver did not give up and put some pressure on the Audi driven by Max Hofer that eventually had a puncture, which allowed Salaquarda to cross the finish line in a well-deserved P5, that rounded off the best weekend of the season for the team.
Team principal Igor Salaquarda said: "We are very happy. The whole team did a great job and this double result rewards all our efforts so far. We had not shown our full potential this year due to several episodes, but we knew we could take a top ten result and we capitalized on all our commitment this weekend. Filip and Frank ran two stunning races, they kept their cool and managed to avoid any contacts allowing us to secure our best result this season so far. Now we will try and put in a strong outing also in the closing round of the season."
