After the lead changed several times in the middle of the session, Sylvest posted a hot lap in the BMW M6 GT3 with almost ten minutes remaining which the opposition were then unable to match. The MRS GT Racing driver's time of 1:28.539 minutes was the fastest of the morning on the fastest circuit on the calendar. For Sylvest, who shares the cockpit with team-mate Jens Klingmann, it was a second pole position in the ADAC GT Masters after the Nürburgring in 2018. "The car was great - just as we wanted it to be," said the 21-year-old. "It was a lot of fun to drive. I am feeling very positive about the race. We intend to finish on the podium."
P2 for a time of 1:28.647 minutes went to championship leader Patric Niederhauser and HCB-Rutronik Racing partner Kelvin van der Linde in the best of the Audi R8 LMSs. 79 thousandths of a second behind and qualifying in third were the RWT Corvette C7 GT3-R pairing of Sven Barth and David Jahn. "I am very satisfied," said Barth. "We've identified something on the chassis that helps us a lot, especially in the second sector. I am looking forward to the race." Starting alongside on the second row will be the best-placed Austrian contestant, Klaus Bachler from Unzmarkt, in fourth. Bachler shares a Porsche 911 GT3-R with Le Mans winner Timo Bernhard.
Fifth position went to Markus Pommer and Marvin Kirchhöfer in the Corvette fielded by the team with the best record at the Red Bull Ring, Callaway Competition. They have already won twice this season. Guest starter Lucas Auer in the Mercedes AMG of Team Zakspeed BKK Mobil-Oil lines up in 14th.
