Bortolotti quickest in the wet: Lamborghini driver posts best time in FP2

14 thousandths of a second decided who finished on top at the end of afternoon practice at the Sachsenring, during which, rain made conditions slippery. Rain kept falling almost until the end of the session, but Bortolotti, whose team, Orange1 by GRT Grasser, are still in contention to win the team title, took advantage of that to set best time of the session with a 1:31.121. By way of comparison, the fastest driver on the day, Thomas Preining, had lapped the circuit in a time of 1:19.056 minutes in the dry earlier in FP1.

"That was definitely a good day for us," said Bortolotti, who shares the Huracán GT3 with Christian Engelhart. "We drove in the dry and in the wet and as a result, should be well prepared for the weekend. I wonder what the weather will be like on Saturday and Sunday. Racing in the wet was excellent, but we were also very pleased with the way things went in the dry. Our chances of winning the team competition are definitely still intact, and for us drivers, it's important that we finish as championship runners-up. With all that in mind, we have a lot of plans in store for this weekend and intend to achieve the maximum."

Maximilian Götz and Indy Dontje were again second in the Mann-Filter Team HTP Mercedes-AMG GT3 and thus confirmed their good initial showing at the Sachsenring. Adrien de Leener and Matteo Cairoli took third place this afternoon in the Küs Team75 Bernhard's Porsche and were a mere 0.129 seconds slower than Bortolotti. Team-mates, Timo Bernhard and Klaus Bachler, came home directly behind them. In second practice, fifth place went to the Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Jimmy Eriksson and Daniel Keilwitz (Team Zakspeed BKK Mobil Oil Racing), closely followed by the already established champions Patric Niederhauser and Kelvin van der Linde in the Audi R8 LMS from HCB-Rutronik Racing.
