Comments after the first race at Zandvoort: Observations from the paddock on Saturday’s race at Zandvoort

Mirko Bortolotti (Orange1 by GRT Grasser, Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo), P1 overall:

"We've worked hard for this. It feels really good to win here. It was about time that we returned to winning ways. I managed to book a mega pole this morning, putting us in the ideal position for the start. I then did not put a foot wrong in the race. I think the way we've performed so far this year has been more or less spot on throughout. Unfortunately, we've not been able to translate that into race wins or top results, but we certainly managed it today, so I'm feeling very pleased."

Christian Engelhart (Orange1 by GRT Grasser, Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo), P1 overall:

"The race was a real thriller. Mirko managed to pull out a small gap initially, but then the safety car came out and our lead vanished. I had to work really hard when I took over the car. The strong wind meant that you never knew whether the rear end was going to step out or not. It wasn't easy. Klaus kept increasing the pressure on me towards the end, and we had quite a scrap. He might even have been a bit faster towards the end, but we were able to defend the lead. I'm delighted with our success."

Klaus Bachler (Küs Team75 Bernhard, Porsche 911 GT3 R), P2 overall:

"A great result. Second place here in the first race at Zandvoort - that's perfect. Many, many thanks to the whole team. Everyone has once again proven that all of our hard work pays off. We had a good car from start to finish. Timo did a great job in qualifying. That was ultimately the key to success. Because if you start from the front and get off the line well at the start, then you're also in a position to manage the race well. Timo drove an excellent first stint. I'm looking forward to tomorrow, to both the quali and the race."

Timo Bernhard (Küs Team75 Bernhard, Porsche 911 GT3 R), P2 overall:

"I am very happy with this result. The car was good right from the first day - consistently fast - and Klaus drove well. Second place on the podium feels good; we want to take that momentum forward into the remaining races."

Marco Mapelli (Orange1 by GRT Grasser, Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo), P3 overall:

"It's never easy to get on the podium here - especially with the level of competition being so high. I tried not to make any mistakes and stay in touch with the race leaders. It's very difficult to overtake on this track, and that's why I just wanted to get through my stint OK."

Michele Beretta (Orange1 by GRT Grasser, Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo), P3 overall, winner in the Pirelli Junior class:

"We're happy with the result and I think we deserved this podium. Marco did a great job in his stint. I know how hard it got towards the end with the tyres."

Mike David Ortmann (BWT Mücke Motorsport, Audi R8 LMS), P4 overall, P2 in the Pirelli Junior class:

"Coming back from the summer break with a result like this is obviously great. The car was magnificent, and Markus did a fantastic job at the end. It's a shame we didn't make it onto the podium in the general classification, but we've come away with a good haul of Junior points and quite a few in the main championship. We hope that tomorrow will be just as good."

Max Hofer (Montaplast by Land-Motorsport, Audi R8 LMS), P5 overall, P3 in the Pirelli Junior class:

"Our performance today was good, but we are disappointed with the result. We pitted in fifth place but then returned to the track in twelfth place due to the safety car coming out. We can only be thankful that my team-mate Christopher Mies staged such a good recovery and worked his way back up to fifth."

Fabian Vettel (Mann-Filter Team HTP, Mercedes-AMG GT3), P7 overall, P5 in the Pirelli Trophy:

"The car was just awesome. The first lap was incredibly hectic. I lost a few positions and then won them back again. After that, there was some superb wheel-to-wheel action - all of it perfectly fair - and I was able to gain some places and hand the car over to Philip in one piece. After yesterday's free practice where I messed up slightly, today's race went really well. This is my first time at Zandvoort driving a GT3 car, and that's quite a feeling."

Philip Ellis (Mann-Filter Team HTP, Mercedes-AMG GT3), P7 overall:

"Fabi handed the car over to me in decent shape and with good tyres, so I was able to attack right away. I immediately overtook two opponents braking for the chicane on the first lap after the stop. I was gradually able to work my way forwards and benefit from one or two incidents along the way. Unfortunately, I got stuck for a relatively long time behind the Audi of Vanthoor and Stippler. After Stippi had twice shut the door on me, I managed to win through at the third attempt on the final lap. We even made contact, but everything was fine as far as I'm concerned. I'll do my best to qualify further forward tomorrow morning, and then it should be possible to achieve something in the race."

Indy Dontje (Mann-Filter Team HTP, Mercedes-AMG GT3), DNF:

"The race got off to an excellent start. I quickly found a good rhythm and was able to gain a few positions, but when I braked for the first corner, I underestimated the extremely strong tailwind and just missed the braking point. Fortunately, the car was only slightly damaged in the impact. For Max and me tomorrow, the only thing we'll have in mind is going on all-out attack."

Matteo Cairoli (Küs Team75 Bernhard, Porsche 911 GT3 R), DNF:

"That was absolutely not the race we wanted. I had a collision with an opponent. I'd overtaken him, sending him off on a wider line, but it was by no means aggressive, and everything was above board. However, he ran into me and I spun off. I hope we can get a decent result in tomorrow's race."
