ADAC GT Masters·16.8.2019

Comments from the 2019 Nürburgring paddock: Friday in the Eifel from the drivers' perspective

Maximilian Götz (Mann-Filter Team HTP, Mercedes-AMG GT3): "The car's balance is good, but it was like that at Zandvoort, and as we saw then, it's no use being ahead in free practice if things don't go right in qualifying. I hope we have better luck this time. But anyway, the Nürburgring is normally a happy hunting ground for us, and I think we'll do well there, so we've set our sights high this weekend."

Christopher Mies (Montaplast by Land-Motorsport, Audi R8 LMS): "It went very well, and we were in fifth place this morning. We focused on our qualifying simulation and were pretty much satisfied with the way it went. The result in second practice doesn't reflect our true pace, as we were on used tyres. However, it wasn't really about the position, but about having a car that's fast in the race."

Franck Perera (Orange1 by GRT Grasser, Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo): "The weather was pretty good today unlike yesterday in testing. We tried out a few things that we didn't get to test yesterday. We focused a bit more on the race than on qualifying. Our three cars had a very competitive showing today, but I wonder what the weather will be like tomorrow?"

Klaus Abbelen (Porsche 911 GT3 R, Frikadelli Racing Team): "Results are not important for us this weekend. We're here to gain experience and to see what happens in the series in order to get some idea of what it's like. And of course, we want to have fun. We don't have to win here or be front-runners. We just have to gain experience and see what it's like with the tyres and the drivers in the series. The starting field is top-class. With a little luck, we can attack in the mid-field. We want to show that we can set the car up properly and do our bit in qualifying. And if chances come our way, we'll take them."

Kelvin van der Linde (HCB-Rutronik Racing, Audi R8 LMS): "That was a solid day. I think we solved our problems from Zandvoort. We were sixth in the end, and our team-mates were also pretty strong. Things will be very close tomorrow, but I'm optimistic. There's not all that much pressure on us at the moment, but we need to try not to have another weekend like Zandvoort."

Markus Pommer (Callaway Competition, Corvette C7 GT3-R): "We were in the Top Ten in first practice, and we've been practising long runs just now. Marvin and I both got on well with the car. It was extremely close as regards times today and will certainly be even closer in qualifying. You can't afford to make a mistake then. Just 0.1 seconds or so can cost you quite a few places. The key thing in the race is to start from the front and get through the first couple of corners. We've got quite a bit of sorting to do still, and then maybe we can find a bit more."

Nicolai Sylvest (MRS GT-Racing, BMW M6 GT3): "We reduced the gap on the front-runners as the day progressed. We're not quite where we want to be, but the track doesn't really suit us, especially the first sector with its tight corners. We have the chance of a finish in the Top Ten although the Top 15 would be more realistic."

Dennis Marschall (HCB-Rutronik Racing, Audi R8 LMS): "I feel good. I was fastest in Junior practice and had the best-placed Audi in FP2. The Eifel is always a lottery as far as the weather is concerned, so getting the car set up properly yesterday was not easy, but it can't have been too bad, as we finished fifth and sixth. We work well together as team-mates. We push each other, swap data and split tasks as regards setup. That brought us quite far up front today."
