Hofer is best Junior in Audi: Corvette driver Barth wins Pirelli Trophy classification

The Austrian had been ninth on the grid and immediately gained two positions at the start. During the round of mandatory pit stops, he was one of the first to come in to swap drivers and hand over the R8 LMS to former champion, Christopher Mies. He fought his way up into fifth place overall, which brought Hofer victory in the Junior category and enabled him to extend his lead by ten points in the classification.

"We knew the race would be tough," said Hofer. "So the start was really important. We didn’t quite have the pace to move much further up front but had the cars behind us firmly under control. We did a solid job again. We extracted the maximum and took solid points towards the championship."

Hofer was second-best Junior behind team-mate Ricardo Feller, his main rival in the overall standings. BMW driver Nicolai Sylvest (MRS GT Racing) in P3 also made it onto the podium.

In the Pirelli Trophy classification, victory went to championship leader Sven Barth for the fourth time this season. He took over the Corvette prepared by RWT Racing in fifth place towards the middle of the race after a good first stint by David Jahn, during which he gained two positions. Barth then moved up another place and finished fourth overall and was thus the best-placed driver in the classification for amateur drivers.

"The start was really great, of course," said Barth. "David was able to immediately gain two places. It was clear, of course, that the guys behind would push and that the ones in front would pull away a bit. He maintained fifth position. I then took over and passed Carry Schreiner. She did a great job and defended well. Christopher Mies pushed from behind towards the end. He had a small advantage over the infield while I was quicker towards the back of the track. To finish fourth overall in the end and first in the Pirelli Trophy class is just perfect."

Lamborghini driver Rolf Ineichen (Orange1 by GRT Grasser) took second place in the Pirelli Trophy classification. Third place went to guest entrant Klaus Abbelen in the Porsche 911 GT3 R prepared by Frikadelli Racing Team.
