Whereas the conditions on Friday morning had been highly changeable, the afternoon session was contested on a dry track, which was also reflected in superior lap times. For the first thirty minutes of FP2, the top spot on the leaderboard was occupied by Montaplast by Land-Motorsport driver Christopher Mies in an Audi R8 LMS, but he was then dislodged by Maro Engel in the Mercedes AMG of series newcomers Toksport WRT. Fifteen minutes before the end of the one-hour session, fellow Mercedes man Götz, who shares the GT3 car entered by Mann-Filter Team HTP with local favourite Indy Dontje, set the fastest lap of the entire day with a time of 1.37.850 minutes.
"The car feels great," said Götz. "First place is a good sign for the rest of the weekend. The track suits the Mercedes AMG, and I'm having a lot of fun driving here. You have to get into the right rhythm to go really fast, and I've managed to do that. But, of course, this was only free practice. It only really counts in the race itself. It will be Indy's turn to drive in quali tomorrow. I think we might do OK. We want to close the points gap in the table and make it onto the podium twice. I'm still missing a trophy from Zandvoort in my cabinet."
Timo Bernhard rounded off a good day for himself and partner Klaus Bachler in the Porsche 911 GT3 R of Küs Team75 Bernhard with second place overall. After Bernhard clocked the fastest time in the morning, he was only 0.193 seconds short of repeating the feat in the afternoon. In third place by a margin of 28 thousandths were Maro Engel and Luca Stolz in the Toksport Mercedes-AMG. P4 and P5 in the second practice went to the two Audi R8 LMSs of Montaplast by Land-Motorsport; Max Hofer and Christopher Mies were 0.044 seconds faster than their team-mates Ricardo Feller and Dries Vanthoor.
