Wet conditions and plenty of suspense right until the end, the second ADAC GT Masters qualifying session was very dramatic throughout. The top spot changed many times during the 30-minute session until Lamborghini driver Franck Perera set the fastest time with his last quick lap just a few seconds before the end of qualifying. With a time of 1:38.672 minutes, the Frenchman took the top spot on the timesheets for Orange1 by GRT Grasser from Kelvin van der Linde in the HCB-Rutronik Racing Audi R8 LMS by a mere seven thousandths of a second. For Perera’s team, this was their second pole of the Nürburgring weekend after Mirko Bortolotti’s best time on Saturday.
"It was very exciting," said Perera, who, together with Rolf Ineichen, will start the race from the very front of the grid for the second time this season. "You had to keep a close eye on tyre wear, because the track dried a little towards the end and got faster. The guys told me to go all-out on my last hot lap. I wasn’t sure if it would work but trusted the team. It’s great for the team and Lamborghini to be on pole. Let’s hope we do well this afternoon!"
Matteo Cairoli and Adrien de Leener will line up in third place in the best-placed Porsche behind Kelvin van der Linde and partner Patric Niederhauser. Cairoli had been in front several times during qualifying but dropped back in the final seconds. Klaus Bachler and Timo Bernhard were close behind him in the second 911 prepared by Küs Team75 Bernhard. Guest starter Matt Campbell in another Porsche completed the Top Five. The Australian shares the 911 GT3 R fielded by Frikadelli Racing with team boss Klaus Abbelen.
