Last year's win for Elia Erhart and Pierre Kaffer came as quite a surprise. Having qualified 30th on the grid, they seemed to be onto a loser from the start. But a well-judged strategic move during the safety car deployment as well as a fighting display by Erhart on the final few laps in which he fended off the attacks of his opponents proved decisive. "This very special day is still obviously very much alive in our memory," recalls Erhart. "It was the toughest as well as the most emotional race of my life." It was maiden victory in the Super Sports Car League not only for him but also for Pierre Kaffer and the team.
"It would certainly be pushing our luck to believe that we could pull off a similar masterstroke this year," adds Erhart. "All the same, anything is possible in motorsport. In 2018, we would never have expected such a situation and certainly not the race win that emerged from it. Anyway, we'll throw everything in the melting pot and - who knows - maybe something unexpected will turn up again." As usual, he will be sharing the cockpit of the Audi R8 LMS with Pierre Kaffer. "With the second half of the season not having gone as we had hoped for, we would certainly like to sign off for the winter break on a high note."
The second of the two Audi R8 LMSs fielded by EFP Car Collection by TECE will have a modified line-up for the weekend. As Mattia Drudi is otherwise engaged, regular driver Florian Spengler will be partnered by Christer Jöns at the Sachsenring.
