Jimmy Eriksson and Kelvin Snoeks will race in the Super Sports Car League for the German team from Niederzissen to the south of Bonn. Whether the two will be partners in one of Zakspeed's Mercedes-AMG GT3s has not yet been decided.
The team have opted for the services of two drivers, who have already raced in the ADAC GT Masters. Jimmy Eriksson won the German Formula 3 Cup in 2012 and has already competed in a number of series, including GP3 and GP2. He drove a Lamborghini Huracan GT3 fielded by Team Rosberg in the Super Sports Car League last year, gaining plenty of experience. The Swedish driver is already familiar with the Mercedes-AMG GT3, having raced the supercar from Affalterbach in the Blancpain GT Series in 2017. "I'm really excited about racing with Zakspeed in the ADAC GT Masters this year," said Eriksson. "I made my debut in the series last season and know just how strong the competition is. It takes a lot to make it to the top, but Zakspeed have enjoyed a great deal of success. We got on really well straightaway while testing at the Hockenheimring, plus, I already know the Mercedes-AMG GT3 from 2017 and really like to drive the car. This is the ideal opportunity that I've been looking for all winter, and I'm very pleased that the team have so much confidence in me."
However, Kelvin Snoeks' last ADAC GT Masters race was three years ago in 2016 when he also raced a Lamborghini Huracan GT3. He's stuck with the brand for the past two years in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo where he has achieved top results. He is now switching brands as he returns to the Super Sports Car League. "I'm really looking forward to lining up for the team this year," said the Dutchman. "Zakspeed are a legend, an outfit with an enormous amount of experience."
The team too are keenly anticipating the upcoming ADAC GT Masters season after working hard on preparations during the winter. Team Principal Peter Zakowski: "As the winter break gradually draws to a close, you begin to feel that the new season can't come quick enough. We're very pleased to have the support of our strong partner, BKK Mobil Oil, once again this year and that we are able to contest the ADAC GT Masters once more with two Mercedes-AMG GT3s. We've prepared well for the new season over the winter, but the competition will again be incredibly strong this season. Looking at who has entered so far, we are all top teams with nothing to hide, and we too intend to be contenders up front with our drivers."
