Championship leader Niederhauser with best time: Audi driver comes first on Friday afternoon

Rain fell again during the second one-hour training session as it had done earlier in the morning. Audi Sport driver Patric Niederhauser coped best with this afternoon's difficult conditions. Along with Rutronik Racing team-mate Kelvin van der Linde, Niederhauser currently leads the overall standings of the Super Sports Car League by one point with four races remaining. He set best time of 2:04.327 minutes, making him some 1.2 seconds faster than Porsche driver Robert Renauer (Precote Herberth Motorsport) had been in FP1.

"I really enjoyed that," said Swiss driver Niederhauser. "The Lausitzring is generally not known for affording much grip and conditions were tricky with a lot of water on the track. It was really slippery out there. Still, we had a good day. It's always nice to come first on Friday. We'll now have to see what the weather is like tomorrow and ensure that we can keep pushing if possible. It felt like conditions were the same in both sessions, so I can't really explain why we were faster this afternoon. I'll be driving in tomorrow's quali. With regard to the title fight, it's vital that we start as far up the field as possible."

As in FP1, second place again went to the Porsche 911 GT3 R of Christian Engelhart and Michael Ammermüller. Currently second in the standings, they were 0.320 seconds slower than Niederhauser and van der Linde.

Austria's Max Hofer (Montaplast by Land-Motorsport) was third this afternoon in another Audi R8 LMS. He shares the car with Christopher Haase and posted a lap time of 2.04.877 minutes. Albert Costa Balboa and Franck Perera (GRT Grasser Racing) were fourth in the best-placed Lamborghini. Driving the Precote Herberth Motorsport Porsche, Robert Renauer and Klaus Bachler went quickest this morning but were fifth this time around.

Luca Stolz and Maro Engel are in third place in the standings and brought their Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo home in P9.
