The 3.64km Sachsenring is an integral part of the ADAC GT Masters itinerary; its challenging layout makes it one of the standout fixtures on the calendar. The Sachsenring has also been a happy hunting ground for Schubert Motorsport in previous campaigns: the team celebrated one-two wins with the BMW Z4 GT3 in 2013 and 2015. In twelve races there, Schubert have chalked up seven podiums and two pole positions.
The Oschersleben-based outfit will be aiming for a decent points haul from the Super Sports Car League on the weekend of 2nd 4th October. Both driver pairings finished in the points at the Hockenheimring and were within striking distance of the Top Ten in qualifying. When Schubert Motorsport next line up in the field of 32 GT3 cars, it will be with a minor change of personnel.
For the Sachsenring weekend, ADAC GT Masters rookie Henric Skoog will be sharing the cockpit of the number 10 car with BMW works driver Jesse Krohn. The 30-year-old Finn, who already drove for Schubert Motorsport between 2015 and 2017, will be standing in for Nick Yelloly, who will be racing for BMW Motorsport in the USA on the first weekend of October. The sister car will have its regular driver pairing of Aidan Read and Joel Eriksson.
"The races at the Hockenheimring were extremely instructive for us," says team boss Andre Schubert. "The two points-scoring results were gratifying and have given us extra motivation. Even more important, though, was the progress we made with the setup, discovering faults at the same time. We were clearly more competitive in qualifying than in the races. On long runs, we really struggled with the rate at which the tyres were degrading, and we couldn’t maintain the pace we were capable of on a hot lap. So, for the Sachsenring, our engineers have been focusing their attention on the weak points in order to further optimise our package. Of course, the layout there is completely different from the Hockenheimring, which makes a direct comparison difficult. However, we are confident that we can carry on moving upwards. The standard of competition in the ADAC GT Masters is very high, and it is our ultimate goal to establish ourselves at the front of the midfield."
