ADAC GT Masters·17.10.2020

Comments after Race 1 at Spielberg: Observations from the paddock following Saturday's race

Henric Skoog (Schubert Motorsport, BMW M6 GT3), P1 overall and winner in the Pirelli Junior classification: "At the start, I went through the first corner side by side with Steijn (Schothorst). Despite a minor contact, I was able to keep up with him, and I then took the lead on the following straight. From that point on, we were able to drive our own race and - most importantly - to look after our tyres. Leading the field always makes the race so much easier, which meant that we were able to post consistently clean laps. As a team, we are absolutely delighted with the victory, and we will do our best to finish in a good position in tomorrow's race as well."

Nick Yelloly (Schubert Motorsport, BMW M6 GT3), P1 overall: "Track conditions like we had today and our BMW M6 GT3 are certainly good in combination, especially as the car can exploit to the full its aerodynamic superiority here in the fast and medium-fast sections. But in any case, our team Schubert Motorsport has also done a great job and we intend to build on this going forward. We were already flying in today's quali, and in the second half of the race, I was able to control our pace well. This victory has made me very happy - after all, it is the first win in the ADAC GT Masters for Henric (Skoog) and myself."

Robert Renauer (Precote Herberth Motorsport, Porsche 911 GT3-R), P2 overall: "Fortunately, things have started to go better for us again; in recent races, we have been making regular appearances on the podium again. We've had good qualifying sessions and are happy to have now made up lost ground. The start today was tight but very fair, and almost all the cars were well matched for pace on the first few laps. As the race progressed, the gap between us and our opponents levelled off, and we spent the rest of the race at the absolute limit. The second formation lap was a great help, because it enabled us to bring the car up to temperature in the cool conditions."

Sven Müller (Precote Herberth Motorsport, Porsche 911 GT3-R), P2 overall: "During the driver change, Robert told me that the car had good grip, which gives you confidence right from the start, and it was a good basis for an effective sprint finish. Over the course of the season, we've been able to turn the car into a potential winner, and we've got stronger and stronger with every race weekend."

Erik Johansson (MRS GT-Racing, BMW M6 GT3), P3 overall and runner-up in the Pirelli Junior classification: "It's wonderful to have taken my maiden podium in the ADAC GT Masters. The start of the race was tricky, as the field is so large, which often causes the cars to bunch up out on track. However, we were able to maintain position and improve our performance. Jens (Klingmann) did an amazing job again in the second stint, and the team were just terrific too."

Jens Klingmann (MRG GT-Racing, BMW M6 GT3), P3 overall: "I was certainly very satisfied with today. Given the prevailing conditions, we had a good race, even though our opponents gradually began to loom larger in the rear-view mirror. The car ran really well today, which gives us confidence to mount an all-out attack tomorrow. Finishing third in today's race will certainly have given the team an extra dose of motivation."

Elia Erhart (EFP Car Collection by Tece, Audi R8 LMS), P17 overall, winner in the Pirelli Trophy classification: "Qualifying was a sobering experience, as we'd hoped to achieve more. I got off to a good start in the race and gained ten places straightaway. Unfortunately, my car sustained some damage in a collision with a Land Audi. As a result, we had problems tackling right-hand corners from the second lap onwards. So, bearing that in mind, we can be pleased with 17th overall and victory in the Pirelli Trophy classification. We intend to go all-out on the attack again tomorrow."

Klaus Bachler (Küs Team75 Bernhard, Porsche 911 GT3 R), P18 overall: "Overtaking was trickier than I had imagined. Tomorrow is a new day. We'll go on the attack right away in qualifying to make sure that we qualify further up the field and hope then to secure a good result."
