ADAC GT Masters·9.11.2020

Comments after the second race at Oschersleben: Reactions from the paddock to the final race of 2020

Michael Ammermüller (SSR Performance, Porsche 911 GT3 R), 2020 Champion: “SSR Performance have put together a great team for their first season. Team founder Stefan Schlund has definitely found the right people, which was certainly a key element in our success. Christian makes a terrific partner. We made very few mistakes all season and can be really proud of ourselves!”

Christian Engelhart (SSR Performance, Porsche 911 GT3 R), 2020 Champion: “Winning the title was extremely emotional for me. I cried when Michael crossed the finish line, because I’ve always dreamed of winning the ADAC GT Masters. It’s just incredible that we’ve now done it. There was plenty of action at the start. I got hit, spun and lost no end of positions as a result. Fortunately, the red flags then came out. I had everything under control on the restart. I then needed to look after the tyres, so keeping up with the Audi in front of me wasn’t at all easy.”

Philip Ellis (Knaus-Team HTP-Winward Motorsport, Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo), P1: “My race was relatively unspectacular. I was able to pull away from the Audi and then secure the win. It was important not to make any mistakes and respect track limits. Raffaele did most of the work. I have him to thank for that. And then yesterday, we got a break with a P3 finish, so at long last, we had a weekend without any problems.”

Raffaele Marciello (Knaus-Team HTP-Winward Motorsport, Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo), P1: “I got away well off the line and had a good scrap with Mirko [Bortolotti]. Overtaking is tricky at Oschersleben, so we were able to defend our position up front and ultimately achieve today’s victory. We had a very clean weekend with no major incidents or contentious situations. Having a problem-free race weekend was the key to our success.”

Mirko Bortolotti (Team WRT, Audi R8 LMS), P2: “After our second place today, we can start the winter break with a good result. The race stoppage after the accident at the start was a bit unfortunate for us, as I’d managed to take the lead shortly after the start. We performed extremely well today. At times, we were even able to keep up with Raffaele [Marciello], so overall, we are very satisfied with the result!”

Rolf Ineichen (Team WRT, Audi R8 LMS), P2 and Winner of Pirelli Trophy classification: “It’s been an exciting year for me! Switching brands obviously meant that there was a lot to learn at the start of the season. It’s taken some getting used to, and so, I’m very happy with the way things ended today. During the race, it was vital to secure the position we were in at the finish, which worked out well.”

Robert Renauer (Precote Herberth Motorsport, Porsche 911 GT3 R), P3: “We’re a bit disappointed. Finishing second in this series is just amazing, a great success, and the whole crew can be proud of our achievement. Still, it’s a shame to lose the championship by such a narrow margin. I think you could all see that we did everything possible today. We have many people to thank for being able to achieve so much, especially our partners, the team and of course, Sven Müller, with whom I contested the first five race weekends. Many thanks for that!”

Mathieu Jaminet (Precote Herberth Motorsport, Porsche 911 GT3 R), P3: “Our mission was clear. We wanted to secure the championship, which was only possible if we gained position and finished up ahead of our rivals for the title. Unfortunately, overtaking at this track is extremely difficult. You’ve got practically no chance, even if you are faster.”

David Jahn (Küs Team75 Bernhard, Porsche 911 GT3 R), P8: “The race was okay really. P10 at the start was not quite what I’d hoped for. More would have been possible, but unfortunately, there was too much traffic once again. The start was chaotic. I got hit on the driver’s door but didn’t spin off, luckily. I was able to match the others for pace on the restart, but overtaking was impossible. Jannes then put in a great stint and brought the car home safely. So, not a bad end at all to the season with P8 and eight points, plus, Jannes came second in the Junior stakes.”

Maximilian Götz (Mann-Filter HTP-Winward), P9: “Something was not right today. I came across red flags twice this morning and had covered some 15 laps or so before I finally got a clear lap, and by then of course, the tyres had peaked. I was unable to make much progress in the race. I got through the chaos at the start safely, and the damage that the car suffered was only cosmetic, but our pace wasn’t great. Indy and I spent more time defending to our rear than we did on attacking the guys in front. There have been great variations in the field this season. If you were lucky enough to get into the tyres’ operating window, you did well. If not, then you didn’t. That’s something we must learn from. The team have got what it takes, but everything has to come together.”

Henric Skoog (Schubert Motorsport, BMW M6 GT3), P12: “It was nice to end the season today with a good race without any drama and secure more valuable points. Nick did a fantastic job on the first stint and then it was up to me to get the car over the line and keep mistakes down to a minimum. Finishing in the Top Twelve here at Oschersleben, the team’s home circuit, has been most enjoyable!”

Philipp Frommenwiler (DLV-Team Schütz Motorsport, Mercedes-AMG GT3), P16: “We did well as a small team. When there were points to be won, we seized our chances and went for it. There are a lot of positives that I can look back on from this year, but then again, there are one or two things we must do for next season. We didn’t always make the best of our opportunities in qualifying but achieved a lot in the races. I’m not just talking about our win. There are many other races that I can also remember. We often managed to go on a charge despite our starting position being anything but ideal, and that’s what sets our season apart.”

Klaus Bachler (Küs Team75 Bernhard, Porsche 911 GT3 R), DNF: “After securing an excellent starting position, there was nothing doing after the accident at the start, unfortunately. We were forced to retire early, but our sister car did a good job. Congratulations to Jannes Fittje for taking second place in the Pirelli Junior classification.”

Tim Zimmermann (GRT Grasser Racing Team, Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo), Overall winner, Pirelli Junior classification: “My race was soon over because of the accident at the start. Of course, I would have liked to have ended the season differently, but that’s racing. I am very pleased to have won the Pirelli Junior classification and am delighted with the title, as it’s an important stepping stone for 2021. We will soon be having our first round of talks about setting up another decent programme.”
