ADAC GT Masters·30.10.2020

Comments from the Lausitzring paddock: Friday and the start of round six from a driver's perspective

Patric Niederhauser (Rutronik Racing, Audi R8 LMS): "I really enjoyed that. The Lausitzring is generally not known for affording much grip and conditions were tricky with a lot of water on the track. It was really slippery out there. Still, we had a good day. It's always nice to come first on Friday. We'll now have to see what the weather is like tomorrow and ensure that we can keep pushing if possible. It felt like conditions were the same in both sessions, so I can't really explain why we were faster this afternoon. I'll be driving in tomorrow's quali. With regard to the title fight, it's vital that we start as far up the field as possible."

Michael Ammermüller (SSR Performance, Porsche 911 GT3 R): "We're very pleased. The car went well right from the start. In point of fact, we were contenders up front the whole time and didn't finish too far behind in the end. It was very slippery. There were a lot of cars out there, throwing up a great deal of spray along the straights, which restricted visibility. Christian will drive in tomorrow's qualifying. It's vital that he can get a clear lap, and then we should be in the Top Five."

Maro Engel (Toksport WRT, Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo): "The long version of the Lausitzring track is great to drive on, but it's not easy to compare it with the season-opening race earlier this summer. This circuit is longer, affording many more opportunities to overtake. With regard to the overall standings, we'll have to continue to finish as high up the field as possible but shouldn't get too hung up about that. What's important is to get through the races, do well and score decent points consistently. As regards the weekend to come, dry conditions might suit us better, but we definitely have a chance of being among the front-runners in the wet too."

Christopher Mies (Montaplast by Land Motorsport, Audi R8 LMS): "Conditions were tough with not much grip in the wet. We skidded around a lot, because it was not easy to get tyre temperatures right. You could tell what it was like from the number of drivers going off into the gravel and running wide. I like conditions like that, because it enables you to make a difference as a driver, but equally, you can soon find yourself out of the car's operating window. Tomorrow's qualifying is certain to be wet and should therefore be very exciting."

Sheldon van der Linde (Schubert Motorsport, BMW M6 GT3): "It's nice to be back in the ADAC GT Masters, even if it was unexpected. I really enjoy it. I hope Nick gets well soon. The team have done a great job and we improved consistently. I hope it will be dry, because that will give us the best chance of doing well. Henric will drive tomorrow in Q1, and it will be my turn on Sunday in Q2. I'm looking forward to it."

Tim Zimmermann (GRT Grasser Racing Team, Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo: "Today was only the second time I've ever driven a GT3 sports car in the wet, so the main thing was to try and gain a little confidence and get a feel for the car. You see, braking in the wet in a car with ABS, for example, is very different as compared to in the Porsche Carrera Cup where there is no ABS, but nevertheless, I managed to gradually do better. There's still some room for improvement with set-up and I've already had some thoughts about what can be done. I'm not going to worry myself about winning the Pirelli Junior title. I'll just do my best and the rest will take care of itself."
