ADAC GT Masters·6.11.2020

Comments from the Oschersleben paddock: Friday's action from the 2020 grand finale as seen from a driver perspective

Patric Niederhauser (Rutronik Racing, Audi R8 LMS): "This Friday was special, because it was wet this morning. Nobody had been expecting that, which is why we postponed a lot of what we intended to do in first practice to the second session. Still, it was a successful dress rehearsal for qualifying. We were able to collect some important data for Saturday. The objective for tomorrow is to be the fastest out there, because qualifying as far forward as possible is going to be crucial, given our grid penalty. Qualifying is definitely going to be tricky. Traffic always plays an important role in the qualis, and hitting the right operating window with the tyres in the cold temperatures won't be easy either, so everything will have to be just right over the two hot laps that the tyres are good for."

Christian Engelhart (SSR Performance, Porsche 911 GT3 R): "It's been quite a varied day. We were among the front-runners in both free practice sessions. In Thursday's testing too, we were already in good shape and fastest on the day. Consequently, we'll be going into the two races with good prospects and full of optimism. I will approach the weekend like any other. You are always a bit on edge, but the nerviness is part and parcel of it. That's what we do it for. My motivation is high, and we'll see what comes out in the end."

Robert Renauer (Precote Herberth Motorsport, Porsche 911 GT3-R): "With this being the final weekend, it was vital to be sharing the cockpit with someone I already know and on whom I can rely completely - this also helps to create a good atmosphere in the team. With our common history in the ADAC GT Masters, Mathieu Jaminet didn't need much convincing; it was also a matter close to his heart to support the team. Now we have to get the best out of the car to ensure we have a good chance of getting a top result."

Philip Ellis (Mann-Filter Team HTP-Winward Motorsport, Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo): "It was actually a relatively good day for us. The conditions this morning were very difficult. It was wet and cold, similar to the Lausitzring. But the car actually ran very well, and we were satisfied with it. We were the best of the Mercedes AMGs, finishing the day in seventh place. The second session was very good for us. We were both able to try out various things ahead of qualifying and we managed to identify a couple of areas. We are in an upbeat mood for tomorrow and hope that we can go on the attack at or near the front."
