Unlike most of the drivers in the field, Erhart was on slicks in the Audi R8 LMS from EFP Car Collection by Tece as he started out on the wet track. He stayed in the midfield until he handed over to team-mate Pierre Kaffer, who brought the car over the line. Despite a retrospective 30-second penalty for disregarding the yellow flags, Erhart secured his third win in class. Since his main rival for the title, Filip Salaquarda (Team ISR) did not finish, the German secured the title with three races remaining and won 22 sets of Pirelli tyres for next season into the bargain.
"We started out on slicks, which went very well initially," said Erhart. "But then rain started to fall again towards the far end of the circuit. As a result, unfortunately, our tactics didn't work out. We then switched to full wets when we pitted. I am delighted to have won the title before the season has even ended. We are a small independent team, so the prize is extremely important to us. We are very grateful, because winning the tyres will help us a lot."
Porsche driver Jannes Fittje took victory in the Pirelli Junior classification. In the quali, the young driver had fought his way into fourth place on the grid to achieve by far and away his best qualifying result of the season. He lost a few positions in the jockeying for position at the start and eventually handed the '911' over to partner David Jahn while lying in sixth place. Jahn ultimately crossed the finish line in fourth overall, which also served to give Fittje victory in the Pirelli Junior class. Thanks to his win, the German, who is currently second in the classification, reduced the deficit on front-runner Tim Zimmermann (GRT Grasser Racing Team) quite significantly from 42 to just 12 points. "I am very satisfied with this result," he told us. "I have managed to close the gap in the Junior points classification. Now let's see what else we can do. My start was a disappointment. On the very first corner, I got hit on the rear wheel and was only just able to keep control of the car. I thought I was going into a spin, but fortunately things worked out OK. I was able to continue but had lost a few positions. After that, I was able to maintain a steady pace - the speed was definitely there. I just tried to stay on the track, because it was exceptionally dirty and slippery, and the visibility was therefore not optimal. It was the right thing to do, because two of the cars ahead of me skidded off and I was able to hand over to David in sixth place."
Dennis Marschall (Rutronik Racing) in the Audi was the second-best Junior driver in Saturday's race. His regular team-mate is unable to compete at the Lausitzring due to illness, so Hamza Owega is standing in for him. Marschall is now third in class with three races remaining. P3 in the Junior stakes went to Ricardo Feller (BWT Mücke Motorsport) also in an Audi.
