Second practice started on a wet track as had been the case in first practice, but the Austrian roller-coaster of a circuit dried out gradually as the session progressed. Feller went into the lead briefly in the middle of practice but then lost his position. However, BWT Mücke Motorsport’s man ultimately reclaimed first place with a time of 1.29.841 minutes and 20-year-old Feller also posted best time of anyone on Friday. “I’m very pleased with my performance,” said Feller, who shares the Audi R8 LMS with Stefan Mücke. “We struggled a little in the wet, but our car goes extremely well in the dry, which is why I’m really looking forward to tomorrow’s qualifying. In the past, I never really liked the Red Bull Ring all that much, but I feel very comfortable this time around. I hope we can repeat today’s performance tomorrow - especially in the race - and get through without any problems or penalties. Then I think we’ll have a real nice day.”
Nick Yelloly (Schubert Motorsport) followed 28 thousandths of a second behind Feller in the best-placed BMW M6 GT3. “I was very happy with my lap and am pleased with the way the car feels,” said the Brit, who is partnered with Sweden’s Henric Skoog. “We know that the track suits the BMW. It’s important to get the most out of it in order to achieve the best possible result. I made a mistake in the wet this morning and hit the barriers. I wanted to make up for that. The team have found a great set-up and I’m now looking forward to the next couple of days. Hopefully, it will stay dry and we can achieve a good result.”
Robert Renauer and Sven Müller came third in second practice after setting best time earlier this morning. They were 0.105 seconds down on the new top time. Partnered with Niels Lagrange, local driver Clemens Schmid brought the best-placed Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo from GRT Grasser Racing home in fourth. P5 went to championship leaders Patric Niederhauser and Kelvin van der Linde in the Audi R8 LMS prepared by Rutronik Racing. Their closest rivals in the title race, Porsche drivers Christian Engelhart and Michael Ammermüller (SSR Performance), finished ninth.
