The stickers on the Porsche 911 GT3 R crewed by Klaus Bachler and Simona De Silvestro are a tribute to Stefan Bellof who died in a fatal crash at Spa in 1985. The racing driver from the German town of Giessen was the role model for team boss Timo Bernhard. Bellof first made the headlines in 1982 when he chalked up a surprise victory in the season opener of the European Formula 2 Championship at Silverstone (GB) and then, on 4th April, at the wheel of his Maurer MM82-BMW went on to win his home race in front of 80,000 cheering fans in a sold-out Motodrom. Bellof graduated to Formula 1 in 1984 and, in the same season, became FIA World Endurance Champion. In 1983, he set a lap record on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife, which was not broken until 2018 by Timo Bernhard.

Stefan Bellof's older brother Georg is delighted with the commemorative livery for Hockenheim: "I think it’s a really great way of keeping the memory of my brother alive, especially with the idea having come from Timo Bernhard who is an avowed fan of Stefan. It would be very nice if the significance of the occasion were also reflected in the results of the races this weekend. I wish the team every success."

Team boss Timo Bernhard is sounding upbeat ahead of the race weekend: "We are looking forward to our second home race of the 2020 ADAC GT Masters. As a team, we have very fond memories of the Hockenheimring. For example, we notched up our first victory there in the 2014 Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland. The Hockenheimring is a great circuit which usually attracts a good turnout. Unfortunately, no fans are allowed through the gates this year, but we will obviously be giving the weekend everything we’ve got and aiming for our first podium of the season after several close results. Both cars have been really strong in the last few races, so that encourages us to think we may be in for a good team result at Hockenheim."
