Racing for Zakspeed BKK Mobil Oil Racing, based at Niederzissen not far from the track in the Eifel, Wishofer showed promise early on in qualifying and secured eighth place on the grid. Getting away well off the line, he soon moved up into fifth place where he remained until the time came to hand the car over to his partner, Dorian Boccolacci, who stayed in P4 for quite a long stretch. However, he lost two positions over the final stages when he was pushed by another competitor. In the end, though, it was enough to give Wishofer his maiden victory in the highly competitive Junior class. "My start was pretty good. I handed the car over in fifth. We subsequently had a chance of a place on the overall podium, because we were faster than the Porsche in front of us, but the late safety car period caused the field to bunch up again. The Lamborghini ultimately cost us two places. I’m pleased with my first win in the Pirelli Junior classification but am also a little disappointed, because a podium finish might have been possible."
Second place in the Pirelli Junior classification went to birthday boy Dennis Marschall, who is 24 today, and team-mate Carrie Schreiner. They finished eighth overall in the Audi prepared by Rutronik Racing. "I am very pleased with the result," said Schreiner. "This is our second Pirelli Junior podium. Dennis drove a really good race and handed the car over to me in sixth. I was able to go the pace quite well but then picked up marbles during the safety car period. That’s why I struggled a bit in the first few laps after the restart and lost position to Marciello and Müller. After that, I was able to draw away a little from the driver behind me." Marvin Dienst was the third-best Junior, having taken ninth place overall along with Philip Frommenwiler in the Mercedes-AMG GT3 from DLV Schütz Motorsport.
Victory in the Pirelli Trophy classification again went to Audi driver Filip Salaquarda from Team ISR as in the race on Saturday at the Lausitzring season opener. Fellow Audi driver Rolf Ineichen (Team WRT) appeared to have won the class, but he and team-mate Mirko Bortolotti received a 5-second penalty after the race for pushing a competitor, dropping Ineichen down into second place.
