ADAC GT Masters·3.5.2020

MRS GT-Racing driver line-up now complete: MRS GT-Racing looking forward to ninth season in ADAC GT Masters

The MRS GT-Racing driver pairing has been officially confirmed. Competing in the BMW M6 GT3 will be BMW works driver Jens Klingmann and former ADAC GT4 Germany contestant Marius Zug. It will be the third successive campaign for Klingmann as a member of the Lonsee-based outfit, for whom he notched up a race win at the Red Bull Ring in 2019. ADAC Sports Foundation protégé Zug is making the step up to the ADAC GT Masters after clinching the ADAC GT4 Germany Junior title in a BMW M4 GT4. Aged only 17, Zug is one of the youngest drivers on this year’s ADAC GT Masters grid. The Klingmann/Zug pairing will carry the banner for MRS as the team embarks on its ninth full season in the ADAC GT Masters.

Karsten Molitor (team principal): “We are delighted that we have been able to put together such a promising package for the current season. We managed to show our potential at various venues last year, so it is important that we now carry this momentum forward and get ourselves firmly established among the main contenders on a sustainable basis. We know that it is very difficult to consistently finish at or near the front in the ADAC GT Masters, but it’s a challenge that we relish. In achieving our objective, Jens Klingmann will play a pivotal role. Apart from being a naturally fast driver, he has more experience in the BMW M6 than anyone else. The pairing of this veteran with an ambitious youngster makes for an interesting combination. Marius Zug came to our attention last year in the ADAC GT4 Series, in which we were also competing with two BMW M4s. We then invited him to do some testing for us in our BMW M6 at the end of the season. We subsequently made a guest appearance in the Italian GT Championship, where Marius did really well partnering Piana. We are very pleased with our new signing and appreciate the confidence he has shown in our team, especially in such exceptional times.”

Marius Zug: “It’s very exciting for me to be making the step up after only one year in the ADAC GT4 Germany series and securing the Junior title. I am very happy to have been given the opportunity to compete for the MRS GT-Racing team in the ADAC GT Masters. When I tested in February of this year at Portimao, I immediately felt at home in the BMW M6 GT3. The car drives really well and is a lot of fun. And the same can be said of working with the team led by Karsten Molitor. What’s more, I have a highly experienced team-mate in BMW works driver Jens Klingmann. There is a lot I can learn from him, and I’m determined to do so, because that and being the top BMW in the series must be my two main goals in the 2020 season. Also, I’ve got no objection to us occasionally making it onto the podium, of course!”
