Sports personalities pay flying visit
Two successful athletes came to take in the unique motor racing atmosphere at Hockenheim. Last year’s German shot-put champion Simon Bayer (24) and World/European wrestling champion Frank Stäbler (31) were guests of herrenausstatter.de at the ADAC GT Masters. Stäbler sent the ADAC GT Masters drivers on their way in Saturday’s race with the ‘Start your Engines’ sign while it was Bayer’s turn on Sunday to give the command to fire up the 18,000 bhp or so available to cars contesting the Super Sports Car League.
Pirelli Pole Position Award featuring an exclusive prize
Audi driver Dennis Marschall (24, GER) and Steijn Schothorst (25, NL, GRT Grasser Racing Team) in the Lamborghini were delighted to receive their special prizes. The two pole-sitters in the ADAC GT Masters at Hockenheim were both presented with an exclusive pair of high-quality, limited-edition Pirelli skis in recognition of their success in the Pirelli Pole Position Award.
Georg Bellof at Hockenheim
Georg Bellof (64), brother of German motor racing legend Stefan Bellof, came to the track to visit Küs Team75 Bernhard at the Hockenheimring and wish them luck. The outfit is remembering sports car world champion and Formula 1 driver Stefan Bellof, who died in 1985 and paying tribute to him by prominently featuring a special design on the Porsche 911 GT3 R driven by Klaus Bachler (29, AUT) and Simona De Silvestro (32, CH).
Virtual Hockenheim round of the ADAC GT Masters eSports Championship powered by EnBW mobility+
From pole position to a comfortable win. Erhan Jajovski (R8G Esports) from Macedonia won the third round of the ADAC GT Masters eSports Championship powered by EnBW Mobility+ on the virtual Hockenheimring. With a lights-to-flag victory, he beat off competition from Tim Jarschel (Euronics Gaming), who advanced up the field from seventh on the grid to finish second. Bence Bánki (Red Bull Racing Esports) from Hungary completed the party on the podium in third place. The next race of the ADAC eSports championship will be on the Sachsenring’s virtual counterpart, 3rd October.
ADAC GT Masters charts a course for 2021
At Hockenheim, the ADAC GT Masters revealed the first details regarding the 2021 season. The Super Sports Car League will stage seven meetings with a total of 14 races during its 15th season. The venues will be Oschersleben, the Red Bull Ring, the Nürburgring, Zandvoort, the Lausitzring, the Sachsenring and Hockenheim. For the first time next year, the race series will receive official championship status from the German Motor Sport Association (DMSB) and be able to confer a special title. Drivers and teams will then fight for the title of international German GT champion as they contest the International German GT Championship.
Le Mans fever at Hockenheim
At the same time as the race weekend at Hockenheim is taking place, the Le Mans 24-hour race, the world’s most prestigious sports car race, is being staged. Drivers and teams from the Super Sports Cars League are also following the endurance classic. As a Porsche brand ambassador, Küs Team75 Bernhard Team Principal Timo Bernhard, who has personally clinched victory overall twice at Le Mans, will be hoping that the cars from Stuttgart do well. ADAC GT Masters presenter Patrick Simon and several other colleagues from Hockenheim are commentating on the one-day race for Eurosport. Many drivers and team bosses from the ADAC GT Masters have been asked to appear on the programme and give their expert opinion.
