Zimmermann already has a longstanding connection with the ADAC: between 2012 and 2015, he was sponsored by the ADAC Sports Foundation, competing in the ADAC Kart Masters, Formel ADAC, ADAC Formula 4 and later in the ADAC TCR Germany. Most recently, he has spent two seasons in the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland.
"GT racing has always been my ultimate ambition," says Zimmermann. "The Cup Porsche has provided the best possible preparation." And he is now switching from Porsche to a Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo, the car with which Grasser secured three race wins and five pole positions in the 2019 ADAC GT Masters as well as finishing championship runners-up with Christian Engelhart and Mirko Bortolotti. "Our expectations for the coming year are consequently high," says Zimmermann.
Zimmermann will be sharing the cockpit with Steijn Schothorst. The 25-year-old former GP3 contestant has already spent three seasons driving the GT3 Audi and, like Zimmermann, has also competed in LMP3-class cars. "I'm looking forward to the ADAC GT Masters," says the Dutchman. "Yes, I know the series is highly competitive, but I also have high expectations. The objective is definitely to feature on the podium. With the exception of the Sachsenring, I am already familiar with all the race venues, which is going to make it easier for me. The team and the car, on the other hand, are new to me, but I already got to know both of them during test drives which I enjoyed right from the start." Schothorst already has his first competitive outing in a Grasser Lamborghini lined up, namely at the Daytona 24 Hours in January.
Team boss Gottfried Grasser is looking forward to seeing his new recruits in action: "We aim to celebrate successes together. For example, we are looking at the Pirelli Junior classification where we think we have a prime contender in Tim. Last year, we spent three days testing with him at Le Castellet where he made a really strong impression, so it made sense for us to sign him up. Steijn already has several years' experience of GT racing and has shown himself to be exceptionally speedy."
