Yaco Racing: Comeback at Red Bull Ring: Guest start with Norbert Siedler and Simon Reicher

Uwe Geipel's team are quite well-known in the ADAC GT Masters. From 2012 to 2018, the German outfit featured regularly on the list of participants in the race series and were planning to return for the 2020 season. Well, at least that was the intention before the Corona pandemic struck down the whole world. Yaco Racing have put their plans on hold until 2021 and have been busy, testing hard ever since.

Uwe Geipel has been active in motor racing for the past 47 years and told us with regard to the guest start: "We've tested at quite a few tracks this year. We think that over the race distance, we have now gained an understanding of the new Pirelli tyre used in the ADAC GT Masters since the start of the season. Qualifying, though, has given us a few headaches. We can simulate qualifying in everyday testing, but the problem is, we don't know whether it's particularly meaningful. For that reason, we would like to test under real conditions in the ADAC GT Masters and take part in some actual quali sessions. This is the only way we can learn to properly understand the tyre and be well prepared for next season."

Veteran driver Norbert Siedler is really looking forward to his first outing for Yaco Racing: "To be back in the Super Sports Cars League with Yaco Racing is a great honour for me, and I can hardly wait. After a great deal of testing together, I can honestly say that the whole team do a fantastic job. We're all tremendously excited to be back this season. I think it's really quite special to get this chance to compete in one of the world's top motorsport series and race in a home fixture at the Red Bull Ring, most definitely!"

His team-mate, 20-year-old student Simon Reicher, is also eagerly anticipating the team's return to the ADAC GT Masters: "Testing is great. It means you can work in a very focused manner and learn to understand many complex things and how they fit together, but the bottom line is that as a racing driver, you naturally want to race. It's what makes us tick. The advantage of being guest entrants is that we have no expectations. We don't have to compete with anyone. We don't have to secure points or trophies - we can just do our own thing while, of course, still trying to get the car home in one piece across the line."

Yaco Racing intend to have another guest start following the weekend in Austria. "We have to evaluate the data from the Red Bull Ring, and so, are planning a second guest start at Zandvoort," said Team Principal Uwe Geipel. "As everyone knows, Zandvoort is simply the best as far as we're concerned, and we remember it well. We took the win in the second race in 2016 from Norbert Siedler, who drives for us now."
