Zimmermann best Junior for first time: Lamborghini driver wins Pirelli Junior classification on Saturday

The German had qualified ninth on the grid earlier this morning. In the race itself, he immediately moved up one position on the first lap and finally handed the car over to team mate Steijn Schothorst lying in seventh place. The Dutchman subsequently fought his way up into P3 overall. This was Zimmermann’s maiden podium in the Super Sports Car League and at the same time, his first victory in the Pirelli Junior classification for young drivers.

„After problems in pre-event testing and again on Friday, we didn’t think it would go so well today,“ said Zimmermann. „As you can imagine, I’m mega happy. The team did a great job. After making a good start, which gained us a couple of positions, things went really well during the race too. In the second stint, Steijn [Schothorst] was able to work his way a couple of places up through the field and secure third place. Winning the Pirelli Junior classification is definitely a nice bonus for me.“

Audi drivers Dennis Marschall and Carrie Schreiner (Rutronik Racing) started the race from pole position and took second place in the Junior class. P3 went to Ricardo Feller (BWT Mücke Motorsport) in another Audi.

In the Pirelli Trophy classification too, a driver managed to make the breakthrough as Elia Erhart in the Audi from EFP Car Collection by Tece took his maiden win, thereby extending his lead in the competition for amateur drivers.

„Obviously, I’m delighted to have won the Pirelli Trophy classification,“ said Erhart. „But it was a tough race. I got away well off the line and moved up a few places. In Turn 2, I built up a lot of momentum for the Parabolica, but then the Porsche in front of me suddenly braked and I hit it, which must have cost us five or six positions. After that, we couldn’t get the car to function properly and had very little grip. We’ll have to get that sorted for tomorrow.“
