SSR Performance is ready to defend its title in the ADAC GT Masters. The racing team from Munich will run a Porsche 911 GT3 R for last year’s champion Michael Ammermüller and Porsche works driver Mathieu Jaminet, who was crowned champion in 2018.
Last year, SSR Performance enjoyed the perfect start to life in the German GT Championship, winning both the Driver and Team competitions at the first attempt. Managing director Stefan Schlund is now looking to back up that success: “I am very pleased to have Michael Ammermüller on board again in 2021. After our championship-winning season in 2020, I am all the more delighted to go in pursuit of more titles with him this year too. Given our mission to defend the title, I asked myself what type of driver we need to strengthen us and fit into our team structure. When it became clear that we would receive support for 2021 in the form of a Porsche works driver, we opted for Mathieu Jaminet – one of the best GT3 drivers around. Michael Ammermüller and he complement each other very nicely. We have a strong line-up and great potential. We must now start the season fully-focussed.”
Michael Ammermüller is also confident about the season ahead: “I am delighted to be a part of SSR Performance again this year. It was great fun last year. Everyone pulled together, and we were rewarded with the championship. In 2020, the feeling ahead of the season was still very uncertain, as it was a completely new team. Now, however, we can carry on where we left off. The goal has to be to win the title again. I think we have what it takes in terms of the team and the car. All we have to do now is perform and hope for an extra helping of good fortune.”
His partner Mathieu Jaminet won the title in the 2018 ADAC GT Masters, after which he was made a Porsche works driver. After a guest start at the final round of the 2020 season, he will now contest all the races again. In 2017, Ammermüller and Jaminet shared a Porsche – on that occasion, however, it was with Küs Team75 Bernhard. Back then, they took victory from pole position at the opening round in Oschersleben. “I am very happy to be driving for the team that is the reigning champion in the ADAC GT Masters,” said the Frenchman. “I was very impressed by the level of professionalism and perfect preparation at the first test. I am particularly pleased to be back in the same team as Michael again. We raced together in the 2017 season, so I am confident about our chances in this year’s championship.”
SSR Performance is again cooperating with Manthey-Racing in the 2020 ADAC GT Masters.
