Audi drivers win Pirelli Junior and Trophy competitions

Audi driver Ricardo Feller won the Junior classification in Saturday’s opening race of the ADAC GT Masters season in Oschersleben. In the Pirelli Trophy competition, fellow Audi man Florian Spengler emerged victorious.

Feller, who drives for Montaplast by Land-Motorsport, qualified in third place and successfully defended that position at the start of the race. A few laps later, he overtook the second-placed Porsche. After the pit stops, team-mate Christopher Mies returned to the track in third place and guided the Audi home in third place to claim a spot on the overall podium. This was Feller’s fifth victory in the Pirelli Junior competition. “The start was good,” said the Swiss driver. “Unfortunately, I was not able to use the new tyres as well as I wanted. However, I think we had a solid race on the whole, particularly given the fact that it started to race. It was not so easy on the slicks in the rain, but it all worked well. I hope we are able to start in the top ten again tomorrow.”

Second place in the Junior competition went to fellow Audi drivers Kim-Luis Schramm and Dennis Marschall (Rutronik Racing by Tece), who finished sixth overall. Third place went to the best-placed newcomer to the series, Jusuf Owega (Phoenix Racing), in another R8 LMS.

The Pirelli Trophy classification was decided by just 0.3 seconds. Audi driver Florian Spengler (Car Collection Motorsport) just came out on top against Rolf Ineichen (GRT Grasser Racing Team) in his Lamborghini. “I lost a place at the start, but was able to regain it,” said Spengler. “When it rained and the grip conditions became difficult, I overtook Rolf Ineichen. My team-mate Markus Winkelhock and Franck Perera then battled it out for the class victory, right through to the finish. Markus did a great job and came out on top. It is great to win the Pirelli Trophy classification on my return to the ADAC GT Masters.”
