Raising the curtain for the BMW M4 GT3: ahead of the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring, the new GT flagship from BMW will be on display in its new colours to herald the final phase of testing. The M4 GT3 is slated to compete in the International German GT Championship, the ADAC GT Masters, in 2022.
“Development work on the BMW M4 GT3 is now on the finishing straight and the 24-race at the Nürburgring is the perfect stage on which to present the car in its BMW M Motorsport design and thus to herald the start of the final phase leading up to the first race outings,” says Markus Flasch, CEO BMW M GmbH.
The new GT3 sports car has passed through many stages of development since the start of 2020. These began virtually with CAD and CFD simulations and continued with test bench sessions for the engine, construction of the bodywork for testing and work in the wind tunnel. The roll-out on 18th July 2020 was a milestone. It was followed by numerous test drives on a range of circuits. Currently, more than 14,000 kilometres of testing - corresponding to more than 70 hours of track time – have been chalked up. The BMW M Motorsport engineers have used this distance to work on driveability and reliability as they strive to produce a competitive car. The objective: significant reduction of running costs and maintenance effort compared to the previous model. More testing and racing appearances are scheduled after the presentation and race debut in June, before the first customers take delivery of the BMW M4 GT3, some of whom will compete in the ADAC GT Masters in 2022.
According to BMW, progress has been made primarily in three areas on the new car when compared to its predecessor, the BMW M6 GT3, which recorded four wins in the ADAC GT Masters: driveability, cost efficiency and handling. The driving behaviour and cockpit equipment in the BMW M4 GT3 are also more comfortable for amateur drivers, while the car boasts reduced tyre wear and delivers increased consistency. BMW also views significantly reduced running costs and extended maintenance intervals for engine and transmission as decisive economic factors. Handling is improved with the new ability to make many basic settings directly with the steering wheel, without having to connect an external laptop.
The purchase price for the new BMW M4 GT3 starts at 415,000 Euro net, 4,000 Euro below the price of its predecessor, the BMW M6 GT3, and on a level with its competitors.
