Sweden’s Erik Johansson returns to the German GT Championship with MRS GT-Racing this weekend.
Johansson started last year for the team from Lonsee, winning one race at the Red Bull Ring alongside Jens Klingmann in the BMW M6 GT3. The 24-year-old replaces Austrian Mick Wishofer as the partner of Maximilian Hackländer. Wishofer and Hackländer finished third in the new MRS Porsche 911 GT3 R at the season-opener in Oschersleben.
So far this season, Johansson has been racing with MRS in the Porsche Carrera Cup in North America, where he gained his first experience with the sports car from Zuffenhausen. The Swede will contest the rest of the ADAC GT Masters season at the Sachsenring, Hockenheimring and the Nürburgring.
“A driver change in the middle of the season is obviously not ideal,” says team manager Iris Dorr. “However, with Erik Johansson we are filling the seat with an old acquaintance. Erik fits perfectly in the team and has already been driving for our offshoot in the USA all season. We regret the loss of Mick Wishofer and are grateful for a great season so far.”
