Audi driver Ricardo Feller not only won the Drivers’ Championship at the season finale, but also the Pirelli Junior class. Meanwhile, fellow Audi racer Florian Spengler took the title in the Pirelli Trophy competition.
The battle for the title among the Juniors was a real nail-biter that went right down to the end of the final race. Feller scrapped doggedly for the points he needed to finish ahead of fellow Audi drivers Dennis Marschall and Kim-Luis Schramm (Rutronik Racing by Tece). In the end, Feller came out on top by just half a point. The Swiss ended the race in fourth place in the class, with his rivals behind him in fifth. That left Feller with 275 points to his name, while Schramm/Marschall ended the season on 274.5 points.
“To win the Driver, Team and Junior titles today is simply incredible. I had to go against my natural instincts in today’s race, and the Junior title was far from a gift too. The battle with Kim at the end was hard but fair, and was obviously great fun. This really is an awesome day.”
The best-placed Junior driver in the race was Phoenix Racing’s Yusuf Owega (Cologne) at his team’s home event. He finished ahead of Igor Wallilko from Poland (Zakspeed BKK Krankenkasse Racing), who ended the season in third place in the standings. They were joined on the podium by Lamborghini driver Maximilian Paul (T3 Motorsport) for the second time this weekend.
Spengler wins the Pirelli Trophy competition
Florian Spengler just had to finish the race on Sunday to clinch the title in the Pirelli Trophy competition, and the Car Collection driver did that with second place in the class. The Swabian, who shared the Audi R8 LMS with works driver Markus Winkelhock, won the competition for non-professional drivers for the first time. “I am ultra-happy to have done it,” said Spengler. “The season was not easy, after a year away. As such, it is nice to have won the title now. I learned an awful lot from Markus Winkelhock this year. The season brought the whole team together, everything was very harmonious and great fun. Winning the set of 22 Pirelli tyres helps me to plan for next season.”
Race victory in the Pirelli Trophy competition went to Lamborghini driver Rolf Ineichen for the tenth time this season. He finished third overall in Sunday’s race, alongside Franck Perera.
