Ricardo Feller set the fastest time in the first qualifying session of the German GT Championship at the DEKRA Lausitzring. In doing so, he presented Audi with its fourth pole position in a row this season.
The Swiss driver, together with the entire field, took to the track early in the 20-minute session. The reason: with light drizzle in the air, all the drivers wanted to get some flying laps in on slicks, so as to secure a good starting position for race seven of this season’s ADAC GT Masters. Just minutes into the session, Feller took the lead for the first time with his third flying lap. However, he was then ousted from the top spot again. However, he immediately hit back on his next lap with a time of 1:21.678 minutes, which proved to be simply too good for the opposition. The excitement levels rose again in the final minutes of the session, when, with the rain having stopped again, Mercedes works driver Raffaele Marciello went fastest in sector one. In the end, however, the Italian had to settle for a place on the second row. Feller has now won the Pirelli Pole Position Award twice this season. The reward for his latest qualifying success was an exclusive Bluetooth soundbar and three championship points.
“It is awesome to take pole for the second time in a row, after having done so in Zandvoort,” said a delighted Feller. “In the end, it was really nerve-racing again. When Raffaele set the fastest sector time, I became rather nervous again. The team did a great job and sent me out at the right time. We now want to stay out in front in the race.”
Just 0.074 seconds slower than Feller was Lamborghini works driver Mirko Bortolotti from the GRT Grasser Racing Team. The Italian, who shares the Huracán GT3 with Albert Costa Balboa, starts alongside Feller on the front row of the grid. Third place went to Luca Stolz, who alternates at the wheel of a GT3 Evo for Mercedes-AMG Team Toskport WRT with Maro Engel. The German was just 0.096 seconds off the fastest time. Behind fellow Mercedes drivers Raffaele Marciello/Maximilian Buhk (Mann-Filter Team Landgraf – HTP/WWR) were BMW works drivers Nick Yelloly/Jesse Krohn in the Schubert Motorsport BMW M6 GT3 in fifth place.
Championship leaders Michael Ammermüller/Mathieu Jaminet (SSR Performance) start from seventh. NITRO is broadcasting the race live from 16:00.
