Saturday was a perfect day for Ricardo Feller: The Swiss not only secured pole position and overall victory at the Nürburgring, but also took the class win in the Pirelli Junior competition.
Feller, who starts for Montaplast by Land-Motorsport, first claimed his third pole position of the season in qualifying. He then held onto his lead at the start, before establishing a cushion of almost seven seconds by the time he came in for the driver changeover at the halfway point of the race. His partner Christopher Mies then brought the number 29 Audi home in first place without any issues. This was Feller’s sixth win of the season in the Pirelli Junior class. He now leads both the German GT Championship and the junior competition going into the final race of the season.
That was absolutely perfect today,” said a victorious Feller. “The battle with the Toksport Mercedes at the start was close but fair. After that, the Porsche put the Mercedes under a lot of pressure and I was able to open a healthy lead. The car felt very good today and I was able to get through my laps well. Chris then brought the car home safely in his stint.”
Second place in the Pirelli Junior class went to Maximilian Paul in the T3 Motorsport Lamborghini. The third-best juniors were Kim-Luis Schramm and Dennis Marschall in an Audi run by Rutronik Racing by Tece. Schramm and Marschall trail Feller by just four points in the Junior table and are the only drivers who can still catch the Swiss and deny him the title.
The Pirelli Trophy competition will also come down toa duel between Audi drivers on Sunday. Florian Spengler finished third in the class to defend his lead at the top of the table – despite suffering a puncture in the second half of the race. He now holds a lead of 33 points. His rival for the title, Elia Erhart (Rutronik Racing by Tece), who was second in the class on this occasion, must now win on Sunday and hope that Spengler fails to score points if he is to defend his title. Victory in the class for non-professional drivers went to Lamborghini racer Rolf Ineichen (GRT Grasser Racing Team) for the ninth time this season.
