Italian Luca Ghiotto will make his debut in the German GT Championship in Hockenheim, where he lines up for T3 Motorsport.
The 26-year-old Italian will partner Maximilian Paul at the wheel of a Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo for the team from Dresden. He is standing in for fellow works driver Marco Mapelli, who is driving for the GRT Grasser Racing Team.
“I am a little disappointed that Marco Mapelli will not be driving for us, but he will now start for Grasser for contractual reasons,” said team principal Jens Feucht. “However, I am delighted that we have found a superb replacement in Luca. He has already gained a lot of experience with the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo this year, so he will certainly be able to help us on our way to the top. We want to back up our performance at the Sachsenring.” The Saxony-based team finished eighth at its home event – the best result of its season so far.
From 2016, Ghiotto was a regular driver in the GP2 series and Formula 2, in which he claimed seven victories. He was also the test driver for Williams in Formula 1 in 2017. Prior to that, the Italian raced in GP3, Formula Renault 3.5 and Formula Renault 2.0. After a start at the 12h Bathurst in 2020, he turned his attention entirely to GT racing in the 2021 season. In the Italian GT Championship, Ghiotto has finished on the podium five times in six races with Lamborghini. He has also started in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup at the Nürburgring.
