Mirko Bortolotti: New team-mate in title race

Title contender Mirko Bortolotti of the GRT Grasser Racing Team will share the wheel of the Huracán GT3 Evo with Lamborghini works driver Marco Mapelli at the penultimate round of this season’s ADAC GT Masters in Hockenheim.

With 112 points still up for grabs, Bortolotti, who currently lies sixth in the table, 31 points behind the leader, still has a chance of winning his first title in the German GT Championship. Mapelli is standing in for Spain’s Albert Costa Balboa, who will be racing for Lamborghini Squadra Corse on a different project.

“My job is to support Mirko and the Grasser team, in order to make the most of any situation, with which we are confronted during the race,” says Mapelli. “Our goal is to challenge for victory in both races and to score as many points as possible in the title race. The circuit should actually suit the Lamborghini. Maybe the weather will play a role at the weekend.”

Mapelli has already made four guest appearances with the Lamborghini in this season’s ADAC GT Masters. In Zandvoort, he again started for the Grasser team, alongside Tim Zimmermann. Last time out, at the Sachsenring, he and Maximilian Paul finished eighth to present T3 Motorsport with the team’s best result of the season so far. In 2019, he tasted victory in the ADAC GT Masters in Zandvoort. The 34-year-old has also made a name for himself internationally: In 2019, he won both the overall and the sprint and endurance championship in the Blancpain GT Series.
