Brand change at MRS GT-Racing: The team from Lonsee will contest this season of the ADAC GT Masters with a Porsche 911 GT3 R. Maximilian Hackländer is the first confirmed driver.
After several seasons with McLaren, Nissan and BMW, Karsten Molitor and Iris Dörr’s team is reverting to a 911 in the German GT Championship for the first time since 2011. In that season, MRS GT-Racing, as a guest starter, secured a win at the first time of asking in the series debut at the Red Bull Ring. In the past two seasons, MRS celebrated two further victories at the Austrian Formula 1 track with the BMW M6 GT3.
“In the past, we often asked ourselves why, with our 18-year Porsche background, we were no longer contesting the ADAC GT Masters with a 911,” said Karsten Molitor. “On the one hand, the model cycles never matched up, and on the other hand, we have always been very experimental. And that was a good thing. After all, we achieved respectable successes with our outsiders, not least, last year we were able to give a very good account of ourselves with our BMW M6. With third place in Saturday's race in Spielberg and a victory on Sunday in the 200th ADAC GT Masters race, we delivered perfectly. Nevertheless, we are delighted that it has finally worked out with a Porsche, even if it was not all that easy. Since Porsche was unable to deliver any new vehicles, we got a car from the second-hand market. Now we cannot wait for the season to get started.”
Regarding the driver line-up, the former racing driver said: “We are delighted with our newcomer Maximilian Hackländer. In the Audi R8 LMS, he has already shown his potential on several occasions. We hope that we will soon be able to announce his team-mates.” In addition to the ADAC GT Masters, MRS GT-Racing will also contest the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany, where they will field two new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. This season will be the sixth time that the one-make cup has been a partner series of the German GT Championship.
