From ADAC GT Masters to Formula 1: In December, Schubert Motorsport driver Nick Yelloly will get behind the wheel for the British Formula 1 team, which includes four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel.
As well as his role as BMW works driver, the Englishman is also actively involved in Formula 1. After the final round of the season in the pinnacle of motorsport, Yelloly will take his place at the wheel of Aston Martin’s AMR21 at the one-day “Young Driver Test”, which takes place at Yas Marina Circuit. The outing in the car usually driven by Sebastian Vettel and his team-mate Lance Stroll is the British driver’s third in a Formula 1 car, after previous appearances in 2016 and 2019.
Yelloly has been a simulator driver at Aston Martin and its predecessors Force India and Racing Point since 2014. He regularly climbs into the company’s own simulator at the headquarters in Silverstone, just round the corner from the Grand Prix circuit, to perform valuable development work for the team. Now comes the switch from simulator to the real Aston Martin. “This is not my first test with the team, but I am still just as excited. I can hardly wait to get in the car next month,” said the Englishman.
Since 2020, the 30-year-old has been racing for Schubert Motorsport in the German GT Championship. In his 20 races so far, Yelloly has claimed one victory, which came at the Red Bull Ring in his first season. This was followed in 2021 by a further three podium finishes. Yelloly’s motorsport roots lie in Formula racing. As a BMW works driver, Yelloly is also involved in developing the new BMW M4 GT3, which will hit the racetracks in 2022.
