Lamborghini works driver Franck Perera secured pole position for the first time this season in Sunday’s qualifying in Hockenheim.
Perera had come close to clinching the top spot in recent qualifying sessions, and started the last three races in a row from second place on the grid. This time, a time of 1:37.696 minutes was sufficient to earn him his first Pirelli Pole Position Award and three championship points.
“The standard in this championship is so high that everything has to come together to be successful. As such, I am very happy to have been fastest,” said Perera, who alternates with Rolf Ineichen at the wheel of a Huracán GT3 Evo. “I came close the last three times, but knew that I could do it here. The yellow flags made it difficult to manage the tyres. However, I managed to put together a good lap. It is important to get the win and support Lamborghini in the title race.”
In second place, 0.099 seconds slower than Perera, was BMW works driver Nick Yelloly, who shares the Schubert M6 GT3 with Jesse Krohn. The best of the title contenders were Raffaele Marciello and Maximilian Buhk in third place in the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo of Mann-Filter Team Landgraf – HTP/WWR. Buhk’s fastest time was 1:38.066 minutes. Local favourite Dennis Marschall secured fourth place on the grid for himself and his partner Kim-Luis Schramm. His best lap time: 1:38.149 minutes. Lining up behind him in fifth place on the grid will be another Audi Sport driver, Dries Vanthoor (Team WRT, 1:38.216 minutes). The Belgian shares the driving duties in the number 32 car with Charles Weerts.
While Maro Engel/Luca Stolz (Mercedes-AMG Team Toksport WRT), who are currently second in the table, start the 60-minute race from sixth place, championship leaders Christopher Mies/Ricardo Feller qualified eleventh in the Land Audi.
