BMW works driver Nick Yelloly was given a taste of Formula 1 this week. The Brit, who lines up for Schubert Motorsport in the German GT Championship, attended tests immediately after the season finale in Abu Dhabi, where he drove the Aston Martin of Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll.
Yelloly completed a total of 118 laps – that is 623 kilometres, or a little over the distance of two Grands Prix – in the Aston Martin AMR21 at the 5.281-kilometre Yas Marina Circuit. He tested various Pirelli tyres, performed aerodynamic tests and completed other preparations for the 2022 season. Of the 19 drivers who attended the test, the Englishman set the seventh fastest time.
“I had a really great day with the Aston Martin F1 Team,” said Yelloly. “It is a real privilege to experience for yourself what these cars are capable of. Before I do anything else, I must now rest my neck muscles.”
This was the third test in a Formula 1 car for the 31-year-old, who also works as a Formula 1 simulation driver for Aston Martin, alongside his outings with BMW in GT3 racing. This season, Yelloly claimed three podiums in the ADAC GT Masters with Schubert Motorsport, finishing eighth in the Drivers’ Championship together with team-mate Jesse Krohn.
