Championship-winning team upgrades to three Audi for its title defence. Newcomer behind the wheel: First driver for 2022 already confirmed. Land to field three new Audi R8 LMS GT3 evo II.
Having achieved the title treble this year, the championship-winning team Montaplast by Land-Motorsport is upgrading for 2022 in the German GT Championship: This year, the team from the Westerwald region will defend its title with no fewer than three Audi R8 LMS evo II. Newcomer Tim Zimmermann (25/Lochau), the winner of the Pirelli Junior competition in 2020, has already been confirmed as the first Land-Motorsport driver for the German GT Championship. The team revealed its plans exclusively in the online show PS on Air – The Ravenol ADAC GT Masters Talk. The new season of the International German GT Championship kicks off from 22nd to 24th April 2022 at Motorsport Arena Oschersleben.
“It was important to us to tie up the package for the coming season as early as possible,” said team manager Christian Land. “This gives all those involved greater planning security, and we can focus even more on our preparations. Among other things, we need to add some more mechanics to our team. Expanding our involvement to three cars must be done in a well-structured manner. In Tim, we have a really strong newcomer on board.
Montaplast by Land-Motorsport is one of the most successful teams in the ADAC GT Masters. In 2021, the team from Niederdreisbach won the German GT Championship with drivers Ricardo Feller (21/CH) and Christopher Mies (32/Düsseldorf). Land also won the Junior and Team titles to complete the treble – something the team had previously achieved in 2016.
Tim Zimmermann has been racing in the ADAC GT Masters since 2020 and won the Pirelli Junior competition for young drivers at the first attempt. Next season, the former ADAC Stiftung Sport driver will be at the wheel of an Audi for the first time, after two years with Lamborghini. “It is an honour for me to drive for this year’s championship-winning team,” said the 25-year-old. “Land-Motorsport has shown on many occasions that it is a really top team. I am very much looking forward to working with them. I am also intrigued by the differences between the Audi and the Lamborghini, which was the last car I drove. I cannot wait for the first tests in the R8 at the start of 2022.”
Who will partner Zimmermann and who will be at the wheel of the remaining two cars will be announced shortly. Before then, Christian Land has another important element on the agenda: “We, and the whole team, are taking a well-deserved Christmas break. Our crew has more than earned that, after what has been a successful but arduous season.”
