A perfect race for Igor Waliłko: The Pole from the Zakspeed Mobil Krankenkasse Racing team took overall victory, and with it first place in the Pirelli Trophy competition, in a Mercedes-AMG on Sunday at the Sachsenring.
Waliłko’s team-mate Jules Gounon laid the foundations for the success with pole position in qualifying. In the race itself, the former champion had opened a lead of approaching five seconds by the midway point in the race, before handing over to Waliłko. He then extended the lead to almost 16 seconds. This was the Zakspeed duo’s second victory of the season, having won the Sunday race at the Lausitzring. Waliłko also won the class for young drivers for the second time.
“It feels fantastic to win on a Sunday again,” said the Pole. “I actually did not come into this season expecting to achieve such great results. I tried to manage the tyres well and bring the car home safely. I am still learning a lot, this is my first full season in a GT3 car. Fortunately, I was able to relax a little more at the front today and did not have to push the car to its limits.”
The second-best Junior was Audi driver Ricardo Feller (Montaplast by Land-Motorsport), who continues to lead the overall standings alongside his partner Christopher Mies. Third place in the Junior competition went to fellow Audi racer Jusuf Owega (Phoenix Racing). Audi drivers Dennis Marschall and Kim-Luis Schramm (Rutronik Racing by Tece) top the table in this class.
The most successful driver in the Pirelli Trophy on Sunday was Rolf Ineichen (GRT Grasser Racing Team) in a Lamborghini. The Swiss driver was running second overall until the final lap, when he dropped to fourth place in the last corner. However, that was sufficient to give him the class win in the competition for non-professional drivers. Second place here went to class leader Florian Spengler (Car Collection Motorsport-Audi), with fellow Audi driver Elia Erhart (Rutronik Racing by Tece) taking third place.
