ADAC GT Masters·11.2.2022

ADAC GT Masters strongly represented in the Mercedes-AMG squad

Mercedes-AMG Motorsport is going on the offensive in the coming GT season: the squad of customer racing drivers consists of 17 drivers, who support international customer and performance teams at their race outings. The high-class line-up for the 2022 season consists of ten Performance, four Junior and three Expert drivers.

Ten drivers in the new Mercedes-AMG squad have successfully raced in the ADAC GT Masters in recent years. The most prominent of these is Jules Gounon. The Frenchman, who finished sixth in last year’s German GT Championship, has climbed onto the top step of the podium on eight occasions and won the title in 2017. Gounon is joined in the ranks of Mercedes-AMG Performance drivers by last year’s ADAC GT Masters drivers Maximilian Buhk, Maro Engel, Rafaele Marciello and Luca Stolz. ADAC GT Masters race winners Philipp Ellis and Lucas Auer, as well as former champion Maximilian Götz, are also members of the Mercedes-AMG customer racing squad. Long-term ADAC GT Masters driver Patrick Assenheimer was named in the Junior squad.

Engel, Götz, Gounon, Marciello and Stolz are also partners of Mercedes-AMG and ADAC GT Masters partner BWT, and will again wear the characteristic BWT pink – on their helmets, for example.

Christoph Sagemüller, Head of Mercedes-AMG Motorsport: “We want to be successful in every major racing series in 2022, which is reflected in our squad of drivers. Personally, I am also delighted that, not only have our long-term drivers remained loyal to us, but new top drivers also want to be part of the Mercedes-AMG family. Furthermore, we are also expanding our commitment with strong partners like BWT, which pleases me greatly. All in all, a look at our line-up, together with our strong team spirit, gives me a lot of confidence ahead of the new season.”

Lutz Hübner, COO/CMO of the BWT Group: “We are looking forward to another season with Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Customer Racing – to the fantastic team spirit and, of course, to the striking Mercedes-AMG GT3 in pink! In many sports supported by BWT, pink is synonymous with our mission: “Change the world sip by sip”. This is increasingly becoming a movement that is determined to improve the world a little every day by avoiding the unnecessary use of single-use bottles.
