Emil Frey Racing remains the team to beat in Zandvoort. On Saturday, Mick Wishofer (22/A) and Konsta Lappalainen (20/FIN) took victory from pole position to present the team with its maiden win in its first season in the ADAC GT Masters. Jack Aitken (26/GB) was then the fastest in Sunday morning’s second qualifying session. The Brit waited until shortly before the end of the session, before setting the fastest time of 1:33.471 minutes in the #63 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo. “We knew that the Lamborghini is very quick in Zandvoort. My team-mate Mick was on pole yesterday, today it is our turn. We hope to be equally successful in the race. However, anything can happen in Zandvoort,” said the winner of the Pirelli Pole Position Award.
The second qualifying session in Zandvoort began in tricky conditions on Sunday morning. Parts of the track were still damp and track temperatures around 17 degrees meant it took the drivers about ten minutes to get sufficient heat into their tyres. After that, the lap times fell consistently and the lead constantly changed hands. Jack Aitken set the fastest time on his seventh lap, securing pole position for himself and his partner Albert Costa Balboa (31/E). In second place, just 0.04 seconds slower, was Ayhancan Güven (24/TR),who shares the cockpit of the #91 Porsche 911 GT3 R with Christian Engelhart (35/Starnberg) in Team Joos Sportwagentechnik. Franck Perera (38/F) was third in another Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo run by the Emil Frey Racing team. He and his team-mate Arthur Rougier (22/F) will start the race from row two. Joining them on the second row is Mattia Drudi (23/I) from Car Collection Motorsport. He was the best-placed Audi driver and lines up in fourth place together with local favourite Thierry Vermeulen (19/NL) in the #33 Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II. Fifth place went to fellow Audi drivers Florian Spengler (34/Ellwangen) and Markus Winkelhock (41/D) in the #69 Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II. The field was again evenly matched, with all the cars separated by less than a second.
Race two in Zandvoort, round three of the ADAC GT Masters, begins at 13:00 on Sunday and can be watched live on adac.de/motorsport and motorsport.tv.
