Lamborghini Squadra Corse has announced its works drivers for the 2022 season. The Italian car manufacturer is putting its faith in seven experienced drivers, who will take their place at the wheel of the Huracán GT3 Evo in various global GT3 championships in the coming season.
In Mirko Bortolotti, Andrea Caldarelli, Albert Costa Balboa, Marco Mapelli and Franck Perera, five of the seven works drivers have already appeared in the ADAC GT Masters. Giacomo Altoè and Sandy Mitchell complete the squad for the sports car manufacturer from Sant’Agata Bolognese. Lamborghini is yet to reveal which works drivers will line up in this year’s International German GT Championship.
“I am proud of and happy with last season’s results and the significant contribution of our works drivers,” said Giorgio Sanna, Lamborghini Head of Motorsport. “For 2022, we have set ourselves the goal of staying at the top in those competitions, in which we have already achieved success, meeting targets we have yet to achieve, and being competitive from the word go in the new challenges we are set to face. I am confident that the quality of the Huracán GT3 Evo, together with the talent of our drivers, will bring great success.”
The first big test awaits six of the works drivers this weekend, at the opening round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in the USA. The 24 Hours of Daytona gets underway at 13:40 local time (MEZ, -6 hours) on Saturday 29 January. Roughly 60 cars will line up at the 60th anniversary of the endurance classic in Florida. Among them will be ADAC GT Masters team T3 Motorsport, for whom Maximilian Paul will be joined by works driver Franck Perera at the wheel of a Huracán GT3 Evo.
