Maximilian Paul enjoyed the perfect ADAC GT Masters comeback. At the wheel of a Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo, the Paul Motorsport driver from Dresden set the day’s fastest lap time of 1:25.702 minutes. Fellow Lamborghini racer Marco Mapelli (I/GRT Grasser Racing Team) was second fastest, with Colin Caresani (NL/Schnitzelalm Racing) completing the top three in his Mercedes-AMG GT3.
With the third event of the season enjoying sunshine and temperatures of up to 24 degrees Celsius, the 13 teams headed onto the track in their super sports cars from Audi, BMW, Lamborghini, Mercedes-AMG and Porsche for two practice sessions on Friday. Paul produced the fastest lap of the day at the 3.629-kilometre circuit. “It is nice to be racing “at home” again. I have spent most of my racing career in the ADAC GT Masters. This morning, the track was a little cleaner, which is why faster lap times were possible in the first session. However, we have not shown all our cards yet and are intrigued to see how we get on tomorrow,” said Lamborghini Junior Paul.
Second place went to Mapelli. The Lamborghini works driver was the fastest man on the track in FP2, with a time of 1:25.833 minutes, but was unable to beat Paul’s best effort from the morning session. Caresani (+0.278 seconds) was third. Together with Schnitzelalm Racing, the 19-year-old is making his ADAC GT Masters debut this weekend. Thomas Angerer’s team comes from Niederzissen, just 30 kilometres from the Nürburgring. Fourth place went to Ben Green in the Schubert Motorsport BMW M4 GT3 (+0.307 seconds). The fifth-fastest lap of the day came courtesy of Hockenheim winner Jaxon Evans (NZ/Huber Racing) in a Porsche 911 GT3 R (+0.336 seconds).
The first qualifying session at the iconic circuit in the Eifel region of Germany takes place at 10:15 on Saturday morning and can be followed via a free livestream on the YouTube channel @adacmotorsports.
