Bruno Spengler (CAN) made his second appearance in the ADAC GT Masters at round five of the season at the Red Bull Ring. The 2012 DTM champion shared the cockpit of the FK Performance Motorsport BMW M4 GT3 with Maxime Oosten (NL). The duo won the ninth race of the season in Austria and Spengler was full of praise for the concept of the ADAC GT Masters, which includes a driver changeover.
As he prepared for his second outing in the ADAC’s iconic GT series, Spengler still had very vivid memories of his debut: “That was in October 2015 at the Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg. Back then, I lined up alongside Dominik Baumann in a BMW Z4 GT3 for Schubert Motorsport.” The Canadian finished third to claim a spot on the podium on his debut. At the current Formula 1 circuit in Spielberg, the former DTM star and his team-mate Oosten enjoyed even more success. The BMW pairing presented FK Performance Motorsport with its maiden victory in the ADAC GT Masters. “The team is racing in the series for the first time this season. They are doing a fantastic job and are very passionate about what they do,” said the BMW works driver, acknowledging the commitment of the team from Bremen.
There are always two drivers behind any success in the ADAC GT Masters. Spengler feels there are a lot of advantages to the mandatory pit stop and driver changeover, which must take place between the 25th and 35th minute of the race. “In the ADAC GT Masters, both drivers benefit from each other. I obviously pass on all my experience to the team and Maxime. However, I can also learn from him. Every racing driver develops their own different approach. That is fascinating for all involved,” said the race winner from the Red Bull Ring. Spengler sees great potential in his 19-year-old team-mate Oosten: “Maxime is a great guy and is very talented. I enjoyed driving with him at the Red Bull Ring.”
The grand finale of this season’s ADAC GT Masters takes place from 20th to 22nd October on the high-profile DTM platform. TV partner Sport1 will broadcast all the deciding races at the Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg live and in full on free-to-air TV.
