Pole position for race eight of this season’s ADAC GT Masters was not decided until over an hour after the end of qualifying. Lamborghini works driver Marco Mapelli (GRT Grasser-Racing-Team) set the fastest lap time of 1:18.797 minutes in the 20-minute session at the Sachsenring. However, the Italian was subsequently handed a penalty for blocking another car and has been relegated three grid positions for the race. Maximilian Götz (Uffenheim/Haupt Racing Team) will start the race from pole in his Mercedes-AMG GT3.
Sunshine and temperatures around 17 degrees Celsius provided the ADAC GT Masters drivers with good conditions for a fast qualifying. Mapelli may have set the fastest time on Sunday morning, but his grid penalty means he will start the afternoon’s race from fourth place. That puts Götz, the 2012 ADAC GT Masters champion, on pole position for the fifth time in the ADAC’s iconic GT series. Ralf Aron (EST) joins him on the front row in Haupt Racing Team’s second Mercedes-AMG GT3. Third place went to championship leader and Mercedes-AMG driver Elias Seppänen (FIN/Landgraf Motorsport). Lining up behind fourth-placed Mapelli will be the first of the Porsche drivers, Sven Müller (Bingen/Team Joos by Racemotion).
Race eight of the season takes place on Sunday afternoon. Fans can follow the races live on free-to-air TV station Sport1 from 15:00. The race action will also be streamed live on the free YouTube channel @adacmotorsports.
