First place on the starting grid at the narrow street circuit in Nuremberg will be occupied by Salman Owega: the man from Cologne secured pole position for race three of this season’s ADAC GT Masters at the Norisring with a time of 0:49.384 minutes in his Mercedes-AMG GT3. The Landgraf Motorsport driver was delighted with his maiden pole position. “It feels super to get my first pole position in the ADAC GT Masters. I managed to drive as close to the walls as possible without touching them. There are limited opportunities to overtake at the Norisring, as the track is quite narrow. That makes grid positions even more important,” said the 18-year-old. Jannes Fittje (Langenhain/Huber Motorsport) joins him on the front row of the grid in a Porsche 911 GT3 R.
Under blue skies and with temperatures around 22 degrees Celsius, the drivers took their place in super sports cars from Audi, BMW, Lamborghini, Mercedes-AMG GT3 and Porsche and set off in pursuit of fast lap times on the 2.2-kilometre track in Nuremberg. The battle for pole position was not decided until the closing stages of qualifying. It was eventually Owega who received the Pirelli Pole Position Award from Iris Hagemann, Head of Business Development at bitkasten AG. Second-placed Fittje missed out on pole by just 0.054 seconds. Third place in the 20-minute session went to Benjamin Hites (CHL/GRT Grasser-Racing-Team) in a Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo2 (+0.142 seconds). Tim Zimmermann (Huber Racing) qualified fourth. The championship leader from Langenargen took 0:49.665 minutes for his fastest lap in a Porsche 911 GT3 R. Rounding out the top five was Finn Gehrsitz (Stuttgart/ Team Joos by Racemotion) in another Porsche GT3 car (+0.411 seconds).
The third race of this season’s ADAC GT Masters starts at 15:10. Sport1 is broadcasting the 60-minute sprint race live and in full on free-to-air TV. Fans can also enjoy the action from the Norisring on the YouTube channel @adacmotorsports.
