Zimmermann leaves opposition in his wake: Pole in the rain

Celebrations at Huber Racing: Tim Zimmermann (Langenargen) ensured the Bavarian team’s Porsche 911 GT3 R will start from pole position for the first time in the ADAC GT Masters. The 26-year-old kept his cool in a rainy qualifying session at the Nürburgring and set the fastest lap time of 1:40.647 minutes. Salman Owega (Cologne/Landgraf Motorsport) joins him on the front row of the grid in a Mercedes-AMG GT3.

The infamous Eifel weather struck on Saturday morning, with a shower before qualifying making for a wet session. This meant the teams had to fit the Pirelli wet tyres onto their Audi, BMW, Lamborghini, Mercedes-AMG and Porsche super sports cars, as temperatures lingered around 19 degrees Celsius. Zimmermann coped best with the conditions on the 3.629-kilometre track. In doing so, he brought to an end what has been a barren spell for him personally. “That is a relief,” said Zimmermann after picking up his first Pirelli Pole Position Award in the ADAC GT Masters for three years. “That was my first time in the Porsche 911 GT3 R in the rain. I had to find the perfect line in those weather conditions. There was a bit of trial and error. The track then dried out over the course of the session. I am pleased to be starting from pole position,” said the two-time race winner.

Owega qualified second (+0.610 seconds). The 18-year-old claimed his maiden ADAC GT Masters victory together with team-mate Elias Seppänen (FIN) at the Norisring. Simon Connor Primm (Großschirma/Paul Motorsport) produced a strong drive to finish third in qualifying (+0.731 seconds). The 18-year-old is making his first appearance alongside Maximilian Paul (Dresden) in the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo at the iconic circuit in the Eifel Mountains. Championship leader Jannes Fittje (Langenhain/Huber Motorsport) was fourth in his Porsche 911 GT3 R (+0.985 seconds). Starting race five of the season from fifth place on the grid will be Kim-Luis Schramm (Meuspath) in the FK Performance Motorsport BMW M4 GT3 (+1.030 seconds).
